Road resurfacing in Hazendal commences this week

The City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department is commencing with the resurfacing of various roads in Hazendal, Athlone this week. The works are planned to be completed by May 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather. Read more below:
Approximately 2,5km of the local streets within the Hazendal suburb will be resurfaced in this project along the following roads:
Huntley Street
Albermarle Street between Old Klipfontein Road and Woolmore Street
Harmonie Road between Albermarle Street and Bokmakierie Street
12th Avenue between Herbrand Street and Wallis Road
Wallis Road between 12th Avenue and Wallis Road cul-de-sac
Brandon Road between Bokmakierie Street and Wallis Road
Barcombe Road between Herbrand Street and Bokmakierie Street
George Road between Old Klipfontein Road and Klipfontein Road
Bokmakierie Street between 14th Avenue and 12th Avenue
Bokmakierie Street between Barcombe Road and Harmonie Road
The Roads Infrastructure Management team will ensure that kerbs and channels are realigned and replaced along these sections.
All existing road markings requiring resurfacing will be repainted. Additionally, the road marking within selected suburbs within the Athlone district such as Belgravia; Crawford and Belthorn Estate will also be repainted.
‘The work is much needed to ensure the longevity of the road network in Hazendal. Improved road surfaces will also enhance the safety for all road users in the area. I am really happy that we have managed to include the repainting of all existing road markings in Hazendal; Belgravia; Crawford and Belthorn Estate into this project. Fresh road marking enhances road safety, especially when visibility is poor during inclement weather or after dark, and it makes an area’s roads look so much more appealing. Given that road maintenance usually causes some inconvenience, I urge residents to please be patient while the work is under way and comply with the signage. Once complete, everyone will benefit from it,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Road users are informed that traffic moving in both directions will be affected and flag personnel will regulate traffic in one direction at a time. Work areas will be temporarily demarcated to regulate traffic flow. Residents may park their vehicles in the demarcated area after 18:00 provided that they are removed by 06:30. Parked vehicles that obstruct the construction works will be moved or towed away to avoid interfering with the work.
‘Although no congestion is expected in the area, we recommend that road users consider alternative routes where possible. I want to thank the residents for their cooperation and patience while the work is ongoing,’ said Councillor Quintas.
